[Requisite to complete this program]

In addition to fulfilling requisites of credits of class subject and training demanded by their own major of graduate school, students must take and pass an exam of subjects listed below. Research guidance is done by a supervisor and a co-supervisor belonging to two different courses of the Center for Education and Research on Science for Global Safety. The maximum duration of study is four years for the first half of doctoral study and six years for the second half of it, respectively, by the rules of our University.

[Requisites for completion of the first half of doctoral study and for admission to the second half of it]

  1. Students are required to acquire 3 or more credits out of the Core Subjects, 6 or more credits out of the Major Subjects, 10 or more credits out of the Multidisciplinary Subjects.
  2. Students are required to acquire 2 or more credits out of the Convergence Lab, required to acquire the Global Communication Skill Training.
  3. Students are required to acquire Master Course Seminar.
  4. Students are required to pass Qualifying Examination.
    In QE II, referees are invited from private enterprises, off-campus research institutions, and governmental organizations to administer written examinations and interviews to ascertain whether candidates possess sufficient knowledge of basic and professional subjects and abilities of overviewing and creativity that are necessary to function globally in related fields. If passed, the individual is allowed to proceed to the second half of doctoral study. For students who wish to be transferred to this program one year after admission to the master study or wish to be transferred after completion of the first half of doctoral study, we prepare a special examination based on their master thesis. If they pass, they are allowed to be transferred to the second half of doctoral study.

[Requisites for completion of the second half of doctoral study]

 Doctor candidates must pass a Proposal Defense conducted about one year after their admission to the second half of doctoral study and finish several training subjects. Finally, a review committee in own graduate school examines their doctor thesis. The diploma committee for the leading program reviews the same thesis.

  1. Students are required to acquire 5 or more credits out of the Multidisciplinary Subjects.
  2. Students are required to acquire 2 or more credits out of the Convergence Lab, 2 or more credits out of the Global Leader Training.
  3. Students are required to acquire Doctor Course Seminar.
  4. Students are required to pass a Proposal Defense.
  5. Students are required to submit a doctoral thesis, pass the thesis examination and a final examination of the leading program.
    Consequently, students obtain professional ability by Multidisciplinary “Core” Subject and fusing ability of fields by Multidisciplinary “Shell” Subjects. They are equipped with ample ability of planning, setting up projects, management, overviewing and international talent, which are unrelated to borders between countries and different languages. These are all requisite to completion of this program.
