Tohoku University Institute for Promoting Graduate Degree Programs
At the Institute for Promoting Graduate Degree Programs, there is a management committee, which is responsible for deliberating important matters. There are also academic affairs committees in the Division for International Joint Graduate School Programs and the Division for Leading Graduate School Programs, as well as in the Division for Interdisciplinary Advanced Research and Education. This allows each department to manage itself, and to receive all kinds of highly mobile support individually and as a whole through the university.
Division for International Joint Graduate School Programs
In order to make use of our strengths, we have selected fields that we currently lead the world in, and fields that will be important to contribute to for the evolution of mankind in the future, and push to expand our knowledge beyond the borders of one particular department or field. We collaborate closely with other leading universities around the world to perform joint education and research, with the aim of eduating globally capable and responsible young people through our education programs.
Division for Leading Graduate School Programs
We collaborate with related fields to plan, implement and support world-class doctoral degree programs. This enriches the graduate level education, providing graduate students with a chance to increase their creativity and widen their perspectives, and allows us to educate leaders who can work globally with a wide range of institutions in industry, academia and government.
Division for Interdisciplinary Advanced Research and Education
We plan and support research and development that integrates various fields of study to bring research accomplishments in new areas and use it as a basis for education. This is achieved by cooperation amongst the many research departments, attached laboratories, and frontier interdisciplinary research institutions. In doing this, our aim is to create new general knowledge and promote the education of international-minded, world-class researchers.
